Learning to play a musical instrument takes time and patience but it also brings great joy! When you play an instrument, you have to use both sides of your brain and this creates what is often referred to as, "road work." There's the right side of the brain and the left side of the brain and a band that runs through the center. When you play a musical instrument, both sides of the brain are working at the same time so the information is being passed from one side to the other creating "road work" across the center of the brain. This helps us learn and opens up a whole new world in terms of our ability to learn.
When students take music lessons and learn to practice their instrument, they are learning self discipline, patience and how to create and attain long term goals. Often, students have the sense that a musical instrument is like a video game that you can instantly just start pushing buttons, plucking the strings, pushing the keys and it will all just unfold like magic. This unfortunately is not the case. Learning an instrument takes time but the great thing is that from the first lesson, you are making music and there simply isn't anything quite like it!
Learning an instrument also helps with socialization. Attending performances to hear others play and eventually joining a group to perform in or performing on your own, can bring new friends as well as great joy to both the audience and the performer or performers!
If you have wanted to take lessons but just haven't taken the "plunge", now's the time to sign up and get started! You will be so glad you did!!
As a public school and private studio music teacher with over 30 years of teaching experience, it brings me joy to experience making music with students. Everyone has the ability to make music!
Over the years my teaching has changed and along with that, my vision. Can I prepare a student for college audition? Yes! Can I prepare students for music teaching? Yes! Am I able to meet the needs of the advanced pianist? Absolutely! BUT I have also found great joy in teaching my students how to play instruments and sing just for the enjoyment of it. My goal is for everyone to make music. Music for all!
Mission Statement: Provide an environment that meets the unique needs and abilities of each student, enabling them to meet their potential, "make music and ignite their soul."
